Salomé LeibundGut (*19.5.1973) grew up in Basel. She received her diploma in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the ETH Zürich. During a practical training in the laboratory of Hans Hengartner and Rolf Zinkernagel she got caught by her fascination for dendritic cell biology and immunology. For her PhD in the laboratory of Walter Reith at the University of Geneva she studied the transcriptional regulation of MHC expression in dendritic cells. To pursue her scientific interests she then moved to London where she joined the laboratory of Caetano Reis e Sousa at the London Research Institute of Cancer Research UK. There she investigated how dendritic cells sense fungal pathogens and how innate signaling in these cells can link innate to adaptive immunity. Since the beginning of 2008 Salomé LeibundGut is a member of the Institute of Microbiology at the ETH Zürich where she is currently building up her own research team. For this she has been awarded a "Förderungsprofessur" from the Swiss National Science Foundation.
