CURRICULUM VITAE

I was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland. In 1998 I obtained my diploma in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the ETH Zürich. During a practical training in the laboratory of Hans Hengartner and Rolf Zinkernagel I caught my fascination for immunology. During my PhD in the laboratory of Walter Reith at the University of Geneva I studied the transcriptional regulation of MHC expression in dendritic cells. To pursue my interests in immunology and dendritic cells I joined the laboratory of Caetano Reis e Sousa at the London Research Institute of Cancer Research UK in 2004, where I contributed to the characterization of C-type lectin receptors (e.g. Dectin-1) as sensors of fungi and how they link innate to adaptive immunity. This work has sparked my interests in fungal pathogens, an important but still little studied class of infectious agents, and in interleukin-17-dependent immune mechanisms. In 2008 I moved to the Institute of Microbiology at the ETH Zürich and since 2010 I am a group leader and assistant professor at this institute. For the installation of my research group I was awarded a "Förderungsprofessur" from the Swiss National Science Foundation.
