Curriculum Vitae

Julia Vorholt (born September 15, 1969) studied biology at the University of Bonn and Marburg, Germany. During her PhD thesis (1994-1997) she focused on aspects of methanogenesis under the supervision of Prof. Dr. R. K. Thauer at the Max-Planck-Institut für terrestrische Mikrobiologie, Marburg. Thereafter, Julia Vorholt started to work on the metabolism of methylotrophic bacteria as a postdoc in Seattle with M. E. Lidstrom (1998) and at the Max-Planck-Institut in Marburg (1999-2001) where she built up a research group on the physiology of methylotrophic bacteria. From 2001 to 2006 Julia Vorholt headed a research group at the Laboratoire des Interactions Plantes Micro-organismes in Toulouse within the frame of an exchange program of the the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. There, she initiated research on phyllosphere-associated methyltrophic bacteria.
Julia Vorholt was appointed as Associate Professor at the Institute of Microbiology of the ETH Zurich in April 2006. She is currently the Chairperson of the Institute of Microbiology.
